The town of Duncan is 10 minutes north with many unique shops located in the Old Town area. Duncan is dubbed the City of Totems paying tribute to the extensive native ancestry. The Cowichan Native Village introduces visitors to the legends and traditions of northwest coast natives through photos, carving, demonstrations, genuine Cowichan sweater weaving, films, dancing, music and art.
Throughout the year, the Cowichan Community Theatre offers an array of both musical and theatrical presentations. The BC Forest Museum, covering 100 acres just a few minutes north of Duncan, features a steam train ride around the grounds with a very educational and informative look at logging history throughout the province. There is golfing nearby at the Duncan Meadows Golf Course, Arbutus Ridge and Cowichan Golf courses. For wine enthusiasts, Cowichan Valley boasts five vineyards and a cidery producing products to suite any palate. Each location offers tours, tastings, and sales on-site. Located 45 minutes north of the Parliament Buildings in Victoria and 55 minutes south of Nanaimo, the area boasts the warmest average climate in Canada of 51° F and is ideal for vacationing anytime of the year. |
